YOUNG ARTISTS CONSERVATORY

The Conservatory at Playhouse Merced is thrilled to announce our new, interactive ONLINE CLASS SCHEDULE!

Specifically designed for your student (or YOU!) to be able to do at home, we hope these classes have a little something for everyone! Whether you’ve been taking classes at The Playhouse your whole life, or have never been in our building at all, our new classes are designed for performers of all levels. 

 

Our first session will start on Tuesday, April 7th and will run for four weeks via Zoom, ending April 30th. That means that each class will “meet” for four weeks in a row, and pricing is for the 4 classes in that offering (ie, 4 Tuesdays of Dance Workshop I at 4:00). Want to take more than one class? Great! Multi-class discounts are available for anyone wanting to take more than one class a week!

Dance Workshop I--Jazz for 5-7 year olds (recommended ages) Welcome to Dance Workshop 1!-- This high energy, beginning level Jazz class is designed especially for the 5-7 year old dancer! After a fun warm-up, students will be guided through some basic dance steps (which we are sure they will be performing for you around the house)!

Over the four week session, our dancers will learn a fully choreographed dance number they can show off to whoever is home with them! 

 

Cardio Dance--Missing the Gym? Missing your Dance Classes? Come stretch and sweat with us! Designed for teens and adults, this high energy 30 minute class will include stretching, cardio conditioning and strengthening--all to your favorite dance tunes!

 

Dance Workshop II--Jazz for 8-11 Year Olds (recommended ages) --This high energy, Intermediate  level Jazz class is designed especially for the 8-11 year old dancer! Whether your student has been dancing for 5 years or 5 minutes, we’ll have something for everyone! After a fun warm-up, students will be guided through some beginning/ intermediate dance steps, which they will then put  together in a fully choreographed dance number over the four week session.

 

Teen/ Adult Dance Workshop III--Jazz  Recommended ages 13 and up--Come get your groove on! Our Workshop III class is designed for Dancers who have taken our Dance Workshop III class at The Playhouse, or for those who have at least one year of dance training. After a Dance warmup, we’ll spend the four week session learning a fully realised Jazz routine.

 

Adult Tap--Recommended for Dancers 12 and up with little to no Tap experience. 

Join us on this fun introduction (or re-introduction!) to the basics of Tap. We’ll start with a heart pumping warm up, go over some basics, and then learn a fun combination. NO TAP SHOES NEEDED!!! 

 

Physical Theatre Techniques

Week 1 Object Manipulation - Basics of Object Manipulation-- Challenge

Object manipulation is a foundational skill in physical theatre. It is a performance style  in which one or more people physically interact with one or more objects. Many object manipulation skills use special props made for that purpose. For this course students will use a simple sheet of paper (You must supply this yourself) and learn the basics of how to manipulate the paper to be put together for a short challenge!

 

Week 2- Movement and dance techniques- Basic Fly Low and Passing through - 

This workshop focuses mainly on the movers relationship with the floor, which is an essential element of Physical Theatre and Movement. The class utilizes simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the center and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centered state. There is a focus on the skeletal structure that will help improve the dancers physical perception and alertness. 

Week 3 Basic Clowning and Challenge

Come learn the basics of clown technique and clown logic inspired by both European and American clowns. Learn how to fall, slip, bump, trip, and roll over laughing all while learning how to establish clown sketches for performance. Earn your red nose and find the clown character in you! 

 

Week 4 Circus Training Techniques

Advanced acrobatics, including handstands and aerial tricks, can’t be learned in a single class. To pull off the seemingly impossible, strength and technique must be gained through ongoing practice. In Circus Conditioning classes, students of all levels, from complete beginners to professional performance artists, can build the foundation necessary for hand balancing, tumbling, and aerial arts.

The email that you register your class with MUST be the same email you log into the Zoom class with.  Any email that tries to join class, but is not on the list will be blocked from the class!
